This book makes a systematic summary of the important and difficult points in teaching Chinese grammar to Japanese speakers and provides feasible teaching methods and skills as well. The main body of the book is written in both Chinese and Japanese and is divided into two parts. Part 1 consists of 20 grammatical items, each of which is arranged according to the sequence of teaching for teachers’ convenience and is composed of “what’s wrong”, "why is it wrong”, "how do we say it” and “how do we practice it”. Part 2 deals with 20 pairs of confusable words. For each pair, a table of similarities and differences is provided before differentiation exercises. The table explains the situations in which each word is used and gives right and wrong examples to support the explanations so that students will be well aware of the similarities and differences between the easily confusable words. The differentiation exercises are mostly gap filling ones, with several words provided for students to choose from them, helping students absorb, understand and then master the differences between and usages of these words. This book is one of the training books for teachers engaged in teaching Japanese speakers Chinese. It can also be used by Japanese adults who have already had intermediate or advanced Chinese proficiency and are learning Chinese by themselves.

Liu Fuhua is a professor and Ph.D. tutor of TCFL, linguistics and applied linguistics in Jilin University as well as the assistant dean of both the College of Humanities and the College of International Chinese Education of Jilin University. Ms. Liu’s representative works include Practical Chinese for Foreigners: Writing Course and A Training Course of Chinese Pronunciation.
