The Appreciation: Advanced Chinese selects articles on a various topics. They are rich in contents and characteristic of literature works. This book plays a major and leading role at this level and cares about students' understanding of the reading materials. It also introduces important language points and cultural knowledge involved. This book contains 40 lessons in 8 units, and in each lesson there is a discussion topic to lead in and a writing task to wind up. The specific teaching advice is as follows:
(t) It takes 90 - 100 minutes to study one lesson.
(2) Every class should begin with warm-up activities so as to arouse students' interests in the text.
(3) It is suggested to introduce new words before engaging students in the reading process. The key vocabulary should be explained and practiced fully with the after-text exercises so that students know how to use them properly. For other vocabulary, students just need to make sense of them in the text.
(4) The text can be studied paragraph by paragraph, with the ultimate aim of helping students understand the whole text and the text-related questions. Regarding the relevant language points, it is not suggested to explain them in details when students read the text, as the fluent reading and holistic understanding of the text is more important.
(5) After studying the text, the teacher may further explain the language points by means of practicing and doing exercises. The last ten minutes of a class may be left for a summary.
